WOMEN of ENGLISH
LUTHERAN CHURCH
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.
Bible Study
The Women of English Lutheran meet regularly for Bible study at 9:30 AM on the second Wednesday of each month, September through May. One of our pastors leads the study from the Lutheran Women's magazine. All women are invited to participate, whether they subscribe to the magazine or not.
Funeral Luncheon Groups
The women of the church help serve at funeral receptions. Circles furnish cakes following the schedule. Bev Gaard is one of the chairpersons, rotating responsibility for making arrangements and calling workers. We are looking for one or two persons to co-chair with Bev.
Mission Work
The Women of English Lutheran make quilts, layettes, health and school kits which are distributed to refugees from war, natural disaster and home fires by Lutheran World Relief. Those interested in sewing quilt blocks for quilt tops at home will be furnished with cut blocks. Or, participants may cut their own blocks and material will be furnished. Quilting skills are not necessary to help. Contact either Vicki Nelson 273-5527 or Janet Arndt 273-4171 for more information.
Knit Baby Sweaters
The Women of English Lutheran make layette kits for Lutheran
World Relief which include baby sweaters. Women who like to knit are invited to make the sweaters. The simple pattern takes about five hours to complete. The pattern and yarn are available at church. If you can donate yarn or help knit, please call the church office at 273-4617.
Items Needed for Relief Work
There are lots of items that can be used in the women's projects for Lutheran World Relief. Used sheets can be used for quilt fillers. All sizes can be used except for fitted twin size. There is a special need for more health kits. Pick up some of these items when you shop and see them on sale: Hand towels, wash cloths, bathsize soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs (wide tooth preferred), nail files or nail clippers with file attached, receiving blankets, cloth diapers, and bandaids. These are the items that make up a kit. Place them in a bag, mark it "Mission Action" and bring it to the back entrance of the church. Thank you!
